Outlook Signals Start of a New Equipment Cycle: NOV’s management highlighted a material shift in the commodity backdrop, driven by geopolitical disruptions and supply risks. After years of underinvestment, NOV sees the industry entering a new capital equipment cycle, particularly in offshore and international markets. While disruptions may persist into Q2, the broader setup points to higher activity and stronger demand for equipment and services over the coming years.
In Q1, NOV secured several high-value offshore and long-cycle project awards, including a flexible riser and flowline system for deepwater production in Brazil and rig reactivation and upgrade contracts in the North Sea. The company also won floating production and FLNG-related composite and piping orders, as well as drill pipe contracts for offshore projects in Guyana and the Black Sea.
Revenue and Operating Income in Q1

Revenue declined ~10% quarter-over-quarter in Q1, while adjusted EBITDA fell ~34% sequentially, reflecting operational disruptions, delayed deliveries, and higher costs. Energy Equipment revenue declined ~11% sequentially, with EBITDA down ~27%, as unfavorable mix and Middle East disruptions weighed on margins despite solid backlog execution.
Energy Products and Services revenue declined ~9% sequentially, with EBITDA down ~31%, reflecting lower drilling activity and regional disruptions, partially offset by strength in drill bits and digital services. At the consolidated level, net income improved sequentially from a loss but remained weak, highlighting operating leverage to disruptions and lower activity levels.
Cash Flows And Repurchases: In Q1 2026, NOV’s operating cash flow turned negative year-over-year, driven by significant working capital outflows despite positive underlying earnings. Free cash flow also turned sharply negative. The company returned $100 million to shareholders through dividends and buybacks during the quarter, while maintaining a strong liquidity position with over $1.3 billion in cash.
